Hanomag farm tractors were first built in 1912 by the Hanover, Germany-based company that had formed in 1835 to manufacture steam engines, and then went on to make farm machinery, railroad locomotives, road vehicles and construction equipment. Hanomag tractors rose to prominence in 1928 when their gas-powered equipment switched to four-cycle, four-cylinder diesel engines, becoming some of the first diesel-powered tractors in the world.
